In Great Britain, Inquest Pre Employment Screening offers employee screening services, including employee background checks. The Criminal Records Bureau, a division of the Home Office, has developed a service called Disclosure. There are three types of Disclosures: Basic, Standard and Enhanced. The level of disclosure that an employer has access to depends on the type of position the applicant will hold. Standard and Enhanced disclosures are only available for employees that will hold positions that put them in regular contact with children, young people, the elderly, sick or handicapped, administration of the law and other sensitive areas. The Basic Disclosure is for all other positions. The jurisdictions that the CRB covers in the Basic Disclosure are England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Basic Disclosures are available to the individual job applicant only. The job applicant can then provide the Disclosure to the employer. It is illegal in Great Britain, under the Data Protection Act, to force an applicant to obtain criminal record information about him/herself from third parties by exercising his/her subject access rights.
